The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings measure global universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022 is the latest edition and the biggest yet, including 1,524 universities from 110 countries and regions across 18 tables – one for each of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), plus one overall ranking. In 2021, 1,239 universities were ranked. To feature in the overall ranking, universities must submit data on SDG 17, and at least three other SDGs of their choosing. The University of Maribor is again ranked 801-1000. Its top 3 SDGs are SDG 11 (# 301-400), SDG 9 (# 201-300), and SDG 10 (# 301-400). SDG 17 is # 1001+. The University of Ljubljana is ranked for the very first time in 2022, its overall rank is 801-1000. Its top 3 SDGs are SDG 3 (# 301-400), SDG 9 (# 201-300), and SDG 4 (# 601-800). SDG 17 is # 801-1000. Other SDGs were not ranked yet in 2022: SDG 1 (not ranked), SDG 2 (not ranked), SDG 5 (not ranked), SDG 6 (not ranked), SDG 7 (not ranked), SDG 8 (not ranked), SDG 10 (not ranked), SDG 11 (not ranked), SDG 12 (not ranked), SDG 13 (not ranked), SDG 14 (not ranked), SDG 15 (not ranked), SDG 16 (not ranked).
SDG 4 – quality education measures universities’ contribution to early years and lifelong learning, their pedagogy research, and their commitment to inclusive education.
SDG 9 – industry, innovation, and infrastructure measures universities’ research on industry and innovation, their number of patents and spin-off companies, and their research income from industry.
SDG 10 – reduced inequalities measures universities’ research on social inequalities, their policies on discrimination, and their commitment to recruiting staff and students from under-represented groups.
SDG 11 – sustainable cities and communities measures universities’ research on sustainability, their role as custodians of arts and heritage, and their internal approaches to sustainability.
SDG 17 – partnerships for the goals looks at the broader ways in which universities support the SDGs through collaboration with other countries, promotion of best practices, and publication of data.
