This important international conference A Decade of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction: Envisioning the Road Ahead offered a crucial opportunity to assess UNESCO’s achievements and reaffirm its commitment to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and drive efforts toward a more resilient and sustainable future.
As we approach the 10-year milestone of the Sendai Framework, this Conference took stock of UNESCO’s advancements and outline future directions, emphasizing the prevention, reduction, and management of disaster risks. It had hence contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which are central to UNESCO‘s Disaster Risk Reduction programme.
The conference Concept Note and its Preliminary Agenda are available on the web. There were more than 500 participants on-line, including Dr. Mikoš, Chairholder of the UNESCO WRDRR Chair.

Plenary – To reflect on the impact of the Sendai Framework over the past decade, highlighting success stories, lessons learned, and challenges encountered.
Session 1 – Showcase innovative approaches, technologies, and best practices in disaster risk reduction, with a focus on building resilience and promoting sustainable development.
Session 2 – Addressing vulnerability in the Built Environment: Challenges and Solutions.
Session 3 – Emphasizing the interlinkages between culture, nature-based solutions as well as local and indigenous knowledge systems to build a more resilient future.
Session 4 – Economics of DRR.
Closing – Renew the commitment to the Sendai Framework’s goals and principles, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and collective action in addressing disaster risk reduction.
